Marvel History: Boogie Knights

All Marvel History figures were made by Rich Medley.

These classic Seventies Marvel Comics icons are the Marvel Collector's Edition size, which is roughly six-inch scale. This is only my second real attempt at any Marvel characters. I started this group because I wanted a Killraven, which I began to make from a Paul Stanley figure. Unfortunately, that one wasn't finished in time for the CustomCon - but once the ball started rolling, these went very quickly.

LUKE CAGE, POWER MAN: He started out as a Titan Tron-Ready Billy Gunn figure. I resculpted his hair (complete with texture, although you can't see it) and headband. I also used Sculpey for his sleeves and boot tops. His collar and cuffs are rubberbands. He is mostly painted with acrylics except for his cuffs and headband, which are chrome enamel and his skintone which is a translucent tan craft paint.

MANTIS: She was made from a Sharkman Iniki figure. I had to shave off and sand down some straps on her leg to start. Then I removed her hair to facilitate painting and creating her shoulder pads. They were pieces cut from a plastic figure bubble. I made a paper pattern first to get the fit right, then transferred that to the plastic, cut them out and glued them down. Her skirt is strips of thin yellow plastic glued to her waist, with her belt (an ammo belt from another figure) glued over it. Her red gem is a sequin. Her antennae are two nails pushed through her hairpiece from the inside, bent and painted.

SHANG-CHI,MASTER OF KUNG FU: He came from a WCW Disco Inferno base. I chose this because of the perfect pants. His hair is entirely resculpted. His headband is a wire twist-tie and his wristbands are rubberbands. The rest is just repainting. His skintone is a translucent orange over the previous fleshtone.

HOWARD THE DUCK: A Burger Kid Kid's Meal Donald Duck was the basis for this one. I removed his sombrero and trimmed his serape into a jacket. His lapels and tie are rubberbands. His hat is Sculpey as are his eyebrows which I resulpted into a slightly more angry look.
